...because I see so many people riding around with no helmets. In fact, here is a funny story about something I saw just an hour or two ago on my lunch hour.

Driving down Linbaugh Ave. when a guy with a new blue and yellow Honda (2007?) passes me with the classis shorts, t-shirt, no helmet or gloves etc. I pull up next to him and see it is a really nice bike, no visible damage except for some love bugs splattered across the front. Anyway, light goes green and just as we are getting up to speed here comes a swarm of those tasty love bugs. Five or six splat on my windshield so I am thinking, geez, that must suck with no helmet. Anyway, as we are slowing down into the next red light he takes a hand off and reaches for his face. As he does so he accidentally pulls the handle bar that he is still holding causing him to swerve. He frantically tried to grab back on with his other hand but it was too late. He lost it and down he goes...

Long story at least a little bit shorter, he is okay, just some rash on his leg, elbow, hands from no gear. Of course he f'ed up his brand new bike, but the funniest part... He went down because a love bug splattered in his face and he was trying to wipe it off.

Moral of the story, helmets not only save lives, they can also save your brand new bike!
