Mechanicals and Driving Impressions
As we mentioned earlier, the Maxima lives on with the 3.5L VQ35DE engine. The V-6 design features double overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, variable intake, variable valve timing, microfinished and moly coated internal components, and silent timing chain - all fitted inside an aluminum head and block. In this application, the engine delivers 265 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 255 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm. In the 2003 Maxima, the engine's output is 255 horsepower @ 5,800 RPM and 246 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 RPM. Credit for the Maxima's extra punch goes to a revised intake and larger volume exhaust system. It looks like the much touted variable capacity muffler system is no longer needed and gone for now.
im still hoping for an AWD maxima.... *crosses fingers*
im guessing that nissan is trying to keep this a flagship sports sedan since they have the 350Z. i need to do some more research on cars that are being brought over due to the thier 180 project thingy. i think american markets were supposed to get 4 and so far we have 2.
