Detonation will sound like bad gas or a metallic sounding rattle if that makes since. Who knows you could have just got a bad tank of gas.

You have a long driveway if I remeber correctly, go get on it through first gear (high rpm's), shut it down right away and pull a spark plug. If it is real white or the electrode has spots on it you are detonating.
