these types of establishments have been around since the 50's. that's the whole point of the way they are designed. they promote "hanging out". they want people to feel like they can gather there and have some good food, and a good time. then when passersby see the crowd and everyone having fun, they're more inclined to stop too and.... spend money.

i can see the cops' point of view, but i still think that kicking everyone out is a bit... over the top. if you're not there causing a scene, then i don't see what's wrong with sitting there and bullshitting with your friends. when i used to live there, it was the same way... sort of. the cops would kick us out of the surrounding parking lot (gandy location), but not the sonic itself. it's the same way at gas stations. they don't care if you're a paying customer, weather it be a pack of gum, soft drink, or $50 for a full tank of gas... they feel the need to break up the group. if there is no group, it's harder to plan races.

cliffs: it sucks, but there is really not a whole lot you can do. if you want to start shit with the cops, you run the risk of being arrested for disorderly conduct.
