i've seen them as low as $1000 in running condition. i've also seen them go as high as $8000 for one in immaculate condition. they're not really all that easy to find, so unless you've got a good amount of money, i wouldn't be so picky on one... that is if you have your heart set on an svo.
another option is to try and find a junker svo for a couple hundred buck, and pick up a 2.3 turbo motor... they're everywhere (i've probably gone through about 7 in the last 3 years.). the cheapest motor i've found was $80 and it ran well!
basically all i'm saying is that it can happen, but i wouldn't put too much effort into it unless you really really want an svo.
