It was a 454. In 1972 the engine options on the impalla were 350, 400 SBC 2bbl, and 402 or 454 BBC with 4BBl. I got it from a salesman at Modern Chevrolet in Winston-Salem NC for $300. I notice you are talking about cars you have never owned, so my remarks still stands.
