Since you asked for feedback here is mine:
GM uses bigger motors, plain and simple. Ford has decided to go the way of forced induction because that is the popular trend these days from many automakers. (Mercedes, VW, Mopar, etc.). Sure Ford could have gone the route of GM and got back into another c.i.d. war but Ford has always liked non-traditional motors. (2.3 turbos, large c.i.d V6's, blown V8's, etc.) Sure they have built some of the biggest and baddest in the past but that was when gas was .60 a gallon.
I do not follow the F-Body stuff real close but they will never catch the Mustang aftermarket, especially since they do not have a active pony car. If they do not come back soon (or at all) with another Camaro / Firebird I think you will see the LS / LQ platform go away and the aftermarket will dry up due to lack of factory support.
The thing that gets overlooked everytime by the GM crowd is that Ford is making good power with smaller engines. And sure the argument can be made that Ford installed a blower to get 390 h.p. from the factory but better technology allows this to happen and kudos to Ford for just not slapping in a bigger motor.
Aren't the LS / LQ motors basically the same as a Chevy tow truck from 1970's ? I would hope they would make good proven power by now.
None of this was meant to sound hostile but I am confused on what the question at hand is ?
Congrats on the h.p. improvement, but with all of the work you mentioned (heads, cam, intake) it had better pick up some big power.
Cubic inches are only one part of the equation. Simply put GM designed probably the best cylinder head in existence.......period. And as far as all the work mentioned....he gained damn near 100 rwhp....NATURALLY ASPIRATED. Not to mention for the price of a heavily ported aftermarket 5 liter set of heads, cam and intake. The LS-1 aftermarket is coming down in price so fast its retarded. I haven't seen too many hydraulic cammed n/a 347's...if any at all make the kinda power heads/cam LS-1's do on motor with such a broad power band. You say kudos for Ford for slapping a blower on the 03....I say shame on Ford for caving in and going forced induction. If Ford got their heads out of their asses, they should know that the 5.4 has great potential to make great power n/a. Shit, I wish I lived in AU so I can get my hands on a 5.4 Falcon.
