I was looking for some input on an engine swap in a small ex or ek that I will hopefully be doing within the next few years. Heres the breakdown:
In august Ill be moving to Daytona beach to attend Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, where Ill be majoring in Propulsion engineering, ie. building/designing jets. Exciting no?
The Bell helicopter jet turbines, similar to the rolls royce turbines used in the Y2K (I believe), drive a geartrain, thus allowing the bike to be driven without a vectored exhaust. I have read about other projects involving thrust oriented jets, similar to the ones used in airplanes, but never (to my knowledge) has someone done something like the Y2K with a "sport compact" car. I am hoping to be one of the first to do a Bell turbine swap in a small Civic coupe or hatch, depending on which shell I can find cheaper. I havent yet decided if I should keep the FF layout, or convert it to an FR for simplicity's sake regarding the drivetrain. I will be keeping the interior clean and stock, save for the gauges, which will of course be changed to suit the needs of a turbine. From what research Ive done, these small turbines push out about 350 hp, and god awful amounts of torque, so it should be a fun ride once the build is finally completed.
Any input and/or corporate sponsorships *wink wink* would be greatly appreciated.
