try a new knock sensor ....

You dont want to ditch the knock sensor, its there for a reason and is an invaluable tuning aid. If you had dsmlink you could turn the knock sensor off at a certain rpm(0-4000 for example) the common range for phantom knock.
If you get knock higher than this, chances are that it is true detonation.
