Wow.... what a race! I had the pleasure of watching this one with a bunch of Tampa Racing & TSB buddies. I had a great time & I sure hope to see you all again on our next get together for a race.
Oh my freaking naked sport bike is that fackin ducati FAST! Stoner didn't need to draft to pass and had enough top end to not be drafted on the straights. Incredible!
But perhaps more incredible is how Rossi revealed a bit more of his demigod self under breaking entering T1. Pedrosa constantly passed Rossi on the straights putting a good 2 bike advantage on the former champ. Only to have Rossi make up the 2 bike disadvantage & raise the bet by 2 bike lengths UNDER BRAKING!!! Rossi is an animal!
A couple of times in the race Rossi did his thing to break the young Stoner. But Stoner showed great maturity, remaining calm & matching Rossi's pace to make his pass on the Straights. The Duc easily put a huge gap on Rossi, but the champ made it all up everywhere else on the track...
Once Rossi lured Pedrosa deep into a corner on the brakes, Pedrosa predictably ran his Hyundai wide & lost the leaders. He would eventually best Hopkins to the line, denying our young (best showing) American his 1st podium... so now I hate the SPIC even more... chill, chill... I is Spic so I can talk Spic
With 4 to go Rossi pulls out the kitchen sink he had in his leathers, aka dropping the hammer. For 1/2 a lap or so, it looked as though the former world champ would yet again do as he always does... But not this day. This day belonged to a young man that was practically ridiculed by Honda, the press and dare I say even myself when I read the exorbitant amount of $$$ he wanted for another Honda ride. I have to say it was great to see Stoner give The Doctor a dose of his own medicine.
2 laps to go Stoners hammer proved to be more effective than Rossi's kitchen sink. The kid get's past the Doctor, and with a brutal display of top speed, HP, skill and an attitude that said "Fack U Honda" I am worth more than I asked, put a 2 sec Gap on none other than Rossi himself.
I can just picture Stoner going up to Rossi... "Here ya go, mate. Ye dropped yer sink here, might want to put a nice moen faucet on it."
As for Nicky & Colin??? man I had hoped they would be more competitive... Colin managed 6th after dominating the practice times with Rossi. And Nicky... 8th... disappointing is an understatement.
