I guess some people just aren't happy with doing the speed limit, setting the cruise control and checking the air in their tires. The extremes these people have to go to for a few more MPG makes for the most unsafe driving I've ever read about. And the logic he uses to defend these actions:

Wayne's driving obsession began after 9/11. Before then, he drove "75 miles per hour in the left-hand lane," but in the wake of the attacks he vowed to minimize his personal consumption of Mideast oil. As he sees it, Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda received their operating funds from all the U.S. consumers who bought Saudi oil.
What a myopic tool this guy is. He's not starving Middle Eastern oilmen, he's just saving himself a few bucks a week on go-juice. The gasoline he puts in his tank is but a very small portion of the oil his life depends upon.
