You need to cut off the octagonal piece. You can use a hack saw (takes for ever) or you can use a dremel. Just be very carefull not to scratch the shaft (heh that sounded gross). i dont think you need to take off the spring seat (at least not for my car).

Call up GC and ask them. There usually good peeps.
