How dare you take away my Right to own a radar Detector? I will be telling as many people as I can to email you with their complaints, I hope you are reasonable and don’t try to pass that bill. Please keep me up to date if you do decide to not pass that bill.
this is what he replied:
Dear Christopher,
Thank you for taking the time to write me a detailed message regarding your opinion radar detectors. As a former Sheriff and a current Senator, I feel that saving lives is the top priority for the State of Florida. In the year 2005, there were 3,543 deaths due to traffic accidents. This number could heavily decrease in the future if citizens of Florida would decrease their speed. Again, I appreciate your comments.
Sincerely,
Senator Oelrich

In the year 2005, there were 3,543 deaths due to traffic accidents, but how many were caused by speeding? how many of that was caused by people 65 or older? I have a good amount of friends who are bike riders and you wouldn't believe how many "Rider Down" emails I get because some 75-85 year old just jutted across all 4 lanes of traffic so she/he can make the bingo game. Radar detectors are not a reason to speed, they are to be used as tool to combat sneaky Cops who hide in completely unmarked Trucks/Cars and pull over a group of 5-10 cars because they were going 5-10mph over. I don't need to tell you about those cops, you were a former sheriff right? Remember, guns don't kill people, People kill people. If you pass this law you will only be taking the Radar detectors out of law abiding citizens
