thoughts....
a) Tony doesn't have a clue about serious National level autocross competition (no offense, but you do lack the expirience), and does have a slight "Porsche is perfect from the factory attitude". However, he is correct in that chassis selection is very important. Tony, you'd be AMAZED at what you can do with a mustang chassis to make it handle. Danny has "just springs and shocks on his 944....how fast is he?". David Schneor (sp?) had a pretty well built ASP 944T...it wouldn't even TOUCH a real ASP car. Unfortunately, you really don't see any FAST ASP or even SS cars in Florida (unless Danny drives Joan's Z06) ...or the Southeast really.
b) Leonard....turbo cars = BAD for autocross. You think you need to drive ahead now?? Wait till you have to apply throttle 1/2 second earlier to make sure its on power when you want it. And keep in mind that realistic goals like X rwhp in a turbo applicatoin mean a TON more torque. A Z06 can put down 405 crank hp, and its really up there in terms of about as much as you can put down on DOT tires.
c) I dont think youre getting a foxbody anywhere close to 2500 lbs....what do they START at? 3100 id guess? Last time I check, Mustangs didnt have heavy heated seats and other heavy bullshit items you can pull, aka BMW (save over 100 lbs with seats usually)
d) Just for thought.....i can get a Mazda 323 GTX with just as much power of that 2.3L, get it to the 2600 lb AWD limit, and have AWD. Think your foxbody is going to beat it?
