"Here are the measurements that I stepped off when I looked at the scene today to
figure out what went wrong. It appears to be a high speed tankslapper or
wobble. It looks as if Jeremiah had started somewhere near the Arsenal gate
probably testing out his bike after doing some work on it. He accelerated to an
unknown speed covering .55 miles from a turnaround point. He was in the left
lane. Light front tire marks are on the pavement in the left lane indicating an
oscillation from left to right to left. The bike veered right and entered the
right lane and then the paved section off of the road while continuing to leave
oscillating marks on the road for a total of about 285 ft. before the bike went
into a rock filled ditch skimming the rocks and probably coming down on its left
side on the rocks as the kickstand was broken off and small red pieces of
fairing were broken off. At about 186 feet of traveling downhill over the rocks
it hit the first dirt and impacted heavily. The bike continued through brush
and small trees taking out a clump of small trees and sending some of them well
over 100 feet. The bike traveled about 360 feet over the brush and trees till
it came to a rest. The total distance covered by the bike was about 830 feet
from beginning to end so you can come to your own conclusions about speed. A
well running 954 could hit as much as 160 in a half mile.......... It is very
sad for Jeremiah's family and Jeremiah......... It could happen to any of
us......."
