Go get a compression tester! They're ~$10 and I'll have more respect for you (a $99.99 value absolutely free).

I think Epstein's right (you can almost assume that everything he says is right). I've heard of a motor experiencing the same symptoms and the PCV happened to be completely clogged. New PCV, problems no more.
