Engine vs. Motor
Okay, I decided to make a thread on this.
I know 90% of you dont care, but 4AGZE, RB26DETT, LS7, 4G63 etc. are all codes for ENGINES. They are NOT motors. Certain electric powered devices that convert electricity to mechanical energy are motors. Any device powered by either internal-combustion or external-combustion are engines.
IIRC, the definition of a motor is something that turns energy into mechanical energy which does not run on its own power, whereas engines do run on their own power. I dont know how specifically engines and motors as we know them differ in that aspect, but I do know that "motor" is an improper term for describing a certain engine.
For the record, its not a "starter" either, as it does not directly start the engine on its cycle, it just spins it until natrual process catches on. Technically its a "cranking motor".
When people get into specifics on threads, I still see motor used instead of engine, and thus I wonder how valid their point really is.
Kthanx
