Radio contains a great deal of emi shielding as well so its an ideal place for signal processing.
and contrary to popular belief, more people leave the stock radio in than those who voluntarily replace it for an aftermarket. And a great deal of those who replace their stereos with aftermarket do it because the stock unit is prohibitively expensive. With the airbag control integrated, those people will have an extra incentive to replace with oem parts.
