I just came across this post and debated to respond, but I will say a few things for closure. I was totally unaware of anything going on with all this when CJ contacted me. I offered to look at the car in between tuning cars to help him out.

The first thing I did was check my conversion harness out since I stand behind all my work even though I sold most of my harness business to the guys at rywire.com in Oct. 2005. I went through the entire harness and checked everything out. I noticed that Solero had added the jumper wire between the vtec solenoid and the vtec pressure switch. It was done correctly since this motor had no vtec pressure switch.

John, the reason why the harness looked goofy is because that was one of my original ones back from 2000. Long before your boy Rustin stabbed me in the back and ran with most of my designs right to the copying table. We had a business agreement and I helped him out, supplied him new parts, crimped all his stuff and he stabbed me. Old dirty laundry, long before your time in harnesses and sucks that I trusted someone. The harness may look goofy since it was so old....but it worked flawlessly.

PA sensor, ELD and other minor sensors being disabled will not cause a car to not run.
P28 ECUs do not have a knock board - you have to disable the knock function if you want the car to run. This is true of Hondata as well as Crome.
Nothing in the bin I received from Solero would make me suspicious about it firing up and running a vehicle.

The "IAT transistor" John spoke of as being destroyed in the ECU is a very common problem - I see it all the time. You know what the cause of it is? The IAT sensor has the same plug as the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) and PCS (Purge Control Solenoid). If you ever switch the IAT with either IACV/PCS, you'll burn up that transistor in a hurry. I've seen probably 40 or 50 ECUs with this damage, and none of them were "fried" - they simply lacked the purge capability for emissions. Not a single one were damaged to the point they would no longer run the car.

I don't really need to respond to Dave's post as he definately knows more about Crome than I do and has also tuned more setups than I have. But I will say that the Q31 transistor that was burnt did not kill any of the leads on the ecu nor the ecu itself. The ecu still worked and it did not keep the car from running.

I honestly feel the issue is your fault or whom ever wired up the car.

Furthermore, what did you do about your injector duty cycle ?
Did you upgrade your injectors & have the car re-tuned ?

How is it John Solero's fault that the injectors you were running were too small for the setup if this is the case.... ?
Vega, I am convinced that the ecu did not fry from Solero and both CJ and Solero were consulted by myself on the duty cycle issue. I told CJ that the duty cycle was incorrect in Crome, but I also said that he needed to upgrade the injectors as they were too small for that setup. I made sure that Solero knew I told CJ this as well.

I don't understand why you switched to Crome? The spare ecu that went into the car was 100% capable of being tuned on Hondata. The ecu that was pulled, was removed for a burnt Q31....Hondata will work fine with this burnt transistor.

Here is my thoughts on what happened:
I have seen it many times before as I am sure many of the tuners in here have as well, the Bin file was some how corrupted. I installed another Bin file that I had in CJ's ecu and the car was fine. I told CJ that I didn't want to leave that bin in his car since it was a map similar to his setup, but not exact. I just wanted to test the car out with my bin and make sure all was well. I told CJ to contact Solero, have him copy/paste, manually enter...whatever the values from Solero's original map into a new Bin file. At this point, CJ told me that he was done with Solero and was going to Neal. That is where I left it.

I think Solero and the burnt ecu was a scapegoat for a solution from Solero and I see where he was coming from. We were all kind of pissing into the wind trying to figure out what was wrong with it and Solero was spending a lot of time and wasn't gaining good ground. The burnt Q31 had nothing to do with CJ's issues. Solero was trying to find a solution to help CJ out.

I am curious now, what is the duty cycle at now that Neal tuned the car? The injectors were not changed, so what could it be?

Cliff notes:

-Burnt Q31...seriously doubt caused by Solero.
-Burnt Q31 will not stop the car from running on Hondata or Crome.
-I speculate a corrupted Bin file was the culprit for it not running.
-The duty cycle numbers are incorrect in Crome, but they are running way over optimum right now and Solero should have stopped early.
-Why was the car switched from Hondata to Crome? Does Solero not have the Hondata datalogging/romediting capabilities?
-What is the duty cycle at now after Neal has tuned it....probably still really high....beyond safe.

/End.
