The Kawasaki/Adams Performance/Sportbike zone arrived at Atco raceway Thursday. We made some changes to the bike since Indy. We wanted to see how the bike would react to them. We are without Crew chief Coby Adams. He will fly in for eliminations on Saturday night.
Tuning calls and set up was up to Rickey and crew leader Corey with Cobys cell phone support. We first ran the bike on motor only. The first few passes were consistent. We posted an 8.71, 8.72, and a 8.73. We felt the bike was on track. The first pass with NOS was not successful. Then Corey worked his black magic on the "8 BALL" Kawasaki ZX-14. Corey knows this bike like the back of his hand. He is a crucial part of our race team. Rickey made the first full NOS pass and the Speed Tech NOS system controlled by Schnitz Electronics worked flawlessly. The pass was one of the quickest passes of any NOS super streetbike at 8.07@182mph. "I saw the numbers flash on the board, I said to myself that can't be right" stated Rickey. The E.T slip said otherwise, a 60 foot mark of 1.33, 330 foot mark of 3.60 to a 5.33@143 eighth mile to a 8.07@183mph. This bike is running unbelievable. We backed that run up with a smooth 8.11@179. We knew we had the power to run these numbers" stated Rickey. The team was ecstatic with the performance during testing. The team was greeted this morning to 89 degree temperatures and even higher track temperatures. The first qualifying session was yet another success for the team. Our sponsors Richie's tires, Galespeed Wheels, and suspension by Litz let us lead qualifying with an 8.24@177 in less than desirable conditions. "Everyone was having traction issues but our chassis set up and tire combination pulled us through. After this round we are currently the number one qualifier. The next closest competitor is in the 8.50 range. We are on the forefront of development of the Kawasaki ZX-14. I am happy with the performance of our team thus far into our race weekend. This is a great start to Rickey's birthday celebration today. Round two coverage coming soon.
Round two coverage
Round two went with out a hitch. Rickey ripped off a 8.15@178 with Adams Performance power wheeling the bike at the top of 2nd and 3rd gear. The time intervals were 1.37 60 foot to a 5.39@141 eighth then 8.15@178. This Pass keeps the team in the number one spot. The bike has been posting 40mph back half numbers all weekend. "The next pass we will tone it down a little” stated Rickey. This Kawasaki ZX-14 gets more amazing by the pass. Rickey went on to say "The most impressive part is that the bike makes as much mph as some of the turbo bikes. The lowest back half we have had has been 36 mph during this weekend thus far." The team's ultimate goal is to win the race.
Final round qualifying report coming soon.
Final qualifying results
After the second round of qualifying the stage was set. "We qualified number one and we have the race day combination that is defiantly a wining set up. We look forward to tomorrow's eliminations". The team posted unbelievable mph of 183 and leads the field in E.T. The Kawasaki/Adams Performance/Sportbike zone team has set the bar this weekend.
