if you notice... those jiffy lubes where in california and were privately owned jiffy lubes.. not part of the corporation. These things have never happened anywhere outside of california. I used to work at jiffy lube and they told us all this and jiffy lube themself actually set up cars with cameras to try and make sure this didnt happen and found nothing among their corporate stores only the free owned jiffy lubes. still better to do you own oil change though because it gives you peace of mind at night.. i personally know that we never did anything we werent supposed to at our J.Lube and the oil was always checked to make sure it was the right level by more than 2 people and everything done was inspected by 2 or more people to make sure it was done right... they teach all this in the training to work there
