Fun with my car's battery
[rant]
So, last night for no appearent reason my Buick's battery just GIVES OUT on me. No cranking power. Try to jump with the cables on the battery...no good. Try to let the battery charge on a charger...no good. So, at 11:00 at night I simply can't start my car.
First Trip: Wal Mart to buy a new 65 dollar battery and my friends house to pick up some sockets and a ratchet.
We go back to the car and get to work on the battery. Now, this SHOULD be a simple job, and indeed it is...until...
..The goddamn nut form INSIDE the side-post battery which you screw the bolt into actually rips right out of the battery! So, now I have the positive connector screwed.
Second Trip: Back to my friends to get a cresent wrench, break-free and vice grips.
...The nut is on so tightly that all we do is turn the 8mm end into nothing even when we use the vice grips to hold it and douse it in break-free. Theres a big sturdy plastic boot that you really don't wanna wreck getting in the way so we can't blowtorch it off, and we have no air tools nearby.
Third Trip: Discount to get a hacksaw, saw blades, and a new bolt for the positive terminal.
...Back to the car, after about an hour of tedious sawing, we saw right through the nut and bolt...Unfortuantly, the nut sat flush with one of the spade connectors supplying the car with power and was also partially inside of the boot. So, we have about 1/2 cm of the metal left from the nut...I knew this before hand, figured I could just twist it off afterwards.
Yeah. Right. Its stuck on still flush so I can't get vice grips behidn it. I can't budge even that little peice off the threads, and well...its 2AM...so, thats how my car sits right now after about 4 hours in labor and 100 dollars in expenses. I'm about to tow it over to another house with airtools and just take a grinder to it...
...Any other suggestions? [/rant]
