yeah it should be a very close fit without even bolting it down..but when u bolt it down just make sure its going on strait and just look around the started to make sure its sitin flush..there should be no gap between the starter and the tranny at all unless u took off the dust sheild but i dout it..another thing is when u bolt it down and get ready to start it take like 3 or 4 sparkplugs out of the motor so it can spin alot easier,this way u can test it to make sure it turns over and then put the plugs back in and try it...also u sure u have the identical starter that came out of it..they didnt give u one with a larger cone or something...compare the two to make sure there the same..
