Generally, a ported is loud, sealed is tight. More specifically, a ported box is tuned to be extremely efficient at a given frequency but can be lacking in the wide end of the frequency spectrum. Where as a sealed box may have less output (volume) but will generally be much cleaner.
It really comes down to what subs you're using, amount of power, space available, and most importantly the type of music you listen to most.
