If it looks the same, and is faster, then its the same thing.
Are my comments really over the top??? I don't think so. What's over the top is everyone thinking that the SRT4 is nothing more than another trim level of a base Neon. Its much more than that...I'm not saying that an SRT4 is not a Neon...after all it is, and there is nothing wrong with that. There is no denying tha it's the same unibody chassis of course.
But the fundamental similarity ends there. Suspension, engine, drivetrain, steering components, brakes, electronics, exhaust, wheels/tires, interior components, etc are different. This is as much of what a car "IS" than anything else, including chassis and body panels.
I was trying to illustrate a point in my earlier replies, but I must have missed the mark somehow....so maybe this will better make my point:

Are these two cars the same? I mean they are both '32 Ford Roadsters...the only differences are the engine, drivetrain, suspension, wheels/tires, exhaust, brakes, and some interior components. So they are the "same" car, right?
And I'm not talking about the name of the car, obviously they have that in common....I'm talking about what they actually are, the sum of their parts....they are identical, right? Same car, right?
I don't think so.
