Wouldn't the rim moving inside the tire actually help traction? Tires with sidewall flex hook better than stiff sidewalls. A rim that spins in the tire a little will be simulating this affect.

The best launch is achieved when tires are being "hazed". that is when the tires are moving slighly faster than the pavement. tires that dead hook pull the engine out of its powerband. What usually follows is a serious bog. Tires that dont hook and spin like crazy is the otherside of a bad launch. power is not being transferred to the pavement.
