Yes, they're supposed to be narrow. Unlike your typical street car, which is designed for aunt gertrude's uncoordinated hooves, race cars doesn't have 6 inches between the gas pedal and the brake pedal. The shoes need to be as narrow as possible to prevent your foot getting tangled between the pedals.
Also, if you look closely, these are marketed as a 'driving shoe' not as a racing shoe and as such, are not constructed of fire retardant materials and hence do not come with the safetu ratings required by sanctioning bodies. That's great if you want to look cool like the ricer wannabe's. It's fine if you're just looking to autocross, but it won't cut it if you really want to get shoes to race with.
