A shock dyno is basically what it sounds like - a dyno for your shocks. You put your shocks into a machine that puts the shocks under the type of loads you expect it to see, then you check the results and tune from there. Most people with your average street production cars wouldn't need to use one of these becuase the shock manufacturer has already done these tests. We're building a Formula SAE car, and we'd like to get some data on the shocks we're using, and get some good tuning on them. Since a good shock dyno can cost anywhere from $5000 to $20000, we'd just like to borrow one for a day.
