TAMPA - A motorcyclist was hospitalized and a man arrested after what investigators are calling a late-night road rage incident in the Lutz area.

Brent Alexander Hunt, 24, of Tampa was riding motorcycles Sunday with two friends on U.S. 41 when the driver of a Dodge Dakota pickup began following them, speeding up and slowing down again and again, a Hillsborough sheriff's spokeswoman said.

At about 9:15 p.m., Hunt attempted to pass the truck, which had slowed down a great deal, on Sunset Lane near Cypress Cove Court.

The driver of the truck, Daniel Joseph Dyer, 46, struck Hunt with the side of his vehicle and forced him from the road, where he crashed into a tree, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.

Deputies said Dyer left the scene. But one of Hunt's friends followed Dyer to a Hess gas station at 18431 Livingston Ave., confronted Dyer as he got out of his truck and restrained him until deputies arrived.

Dyer, 1966 Andrews Loop in Lutz, was booked into the Orient Road Jail Monday morning. He posted $17,000 cash bail and was released shortly before 2 p.m.

He is charged with driving under the influence with serious bodily injury and aggravated battery with a motor vehicle that was used as a deadly weapon.

Hunt, 10310 Pennytree Place in Tampa, was listed in fair condition at St. Joseph's Hospital late Monday.

One of the consequences of such notions as "entitlements" is that people who have contributed nothing to society feel that society owes them something, apparently just for being nice enough to grace us with their presence.”
