Yeah I was pissed to see that the bug lost. Though, I'm happy to see that the driver was ok. Hands down the bug was the fastest and pretty much creamed the CRX. I ended up coming in the middle of the show but it was a great race. I'm not a big fan of pinks b/c I think that it's unfair that in the end reguardless if you win the first few races. That if you f'up the last race you lose your ride. Oh well. And what was the deal with honda guys asking the bug guys to take off the wheelbars? Totally unsafe, even the owner of the crx said that it was his fault for asking them to take off the bars...and it wasn't a bright idea for the bug owner to do it either. I mean jeez look what happened!
Talk about safety issues... I can't believe that the track manager let the bug guys take off the wheelie bars... that is a serious safety issue...
Yes..wheelie bars help maintain traction but they also stabilize the car..especially a car like that...when those wheelie bars make contact with the surface...they help both rear tires get traction and maintain stability...even if there is a slick surface on one side of the track...
Obviously...what happened is that one side of the car lost traction...and either broke something or the side that had traction threw the car on to the other side of the track..
That bug would have smeared the Honda any day...turbo or not...
Bugs can be made way faster than most people expect... I've saddened many a 5.0, T/A, Vette, Viper, and most imports when I was racing my bug...
2275cc, Huge heads, Weber 48IDA's, Engle cam, Balanced and blueprinted, 8 gallon Fuel safe racing cell, Holley blue fuel pump with all Earls lines to include oil lines, Kennedy clutch, Vertex Magneto, CB performance pro-comp tranny...and much, much more....interior completely gutted...kirkey racing seat...full cage, weighed 1630 lbs.. ran 12.2. quarter @ 114 mph.. all this with a full steel body and full glass.. completely street legal..(barely though)
Toughest part of racing a bug... they are squirrly as hell.. as evidenced by that episode of Pinks...
