and a blockguard is far from necessary. if you buy the ACL bearing kit it will come with all the main and rod bearings along with thrust washers. even though youre using aftermarket rods you still need to use bearings, if you dont know that have someone help you build it for your own sake
^^ built one of my old ls vtec short blocks...still runs to this day :-0 50k miles later
