Unfortunately not everyone includes themselves in the "groups" "forums" or "boards". If they did they would understand the importance of protective equipment. I know when I show up for the north runs - I often feel under dressed because I'm not wearing pants and boots....
Like many have already said - you got to dress for the crash not for the ride - it's just plain ignorant to say "I'm a good rider, so I'm not planning on crashing or wearing all that hot gear". : (
