Cars are not an investment they are toys that should be purchased only if you have the cash to spare. If you were looking as a car as an investment you would be better off with the MKIV.
With that said any car should last you a long time if it is properly taken care of. (i.e. oil changes, scheduled maintenance, and conservative mods) The Evo is an amazing car straight from the factory and truly opens up with minimal mods (I/E/Reflash) or keep it stock and enjoy a warantee. The best advice is to go drive both and see which one fits you better and who is more willing to negotiate.
