I agree, Merkurs were way underappreciated.
The biggest automotive dissapointments? I can't believe no one's mentioned the classic flop—the Edsil. Also, the Plymouth Prowler set a new standard for hype>reality. The MR-2 Spyder dissappointed me also, but only because Toyota stopped making it in favor of the Matrix. Ew. The Spyder was such a cool car, and it didn't even last long enough to go through one body-style change.
