As for the crossovers in the doors, i've never had problems with those. what i generally end up doing anyways is completely wrapping them in duct tape to really insulate them against weathering.

Not that it will make a big difference, I usually do it that way too and have only had a handful come back because of malfunction....usually takes years though.
They are permanently
glued inside and out. they wont corrode for several decades at the least. I was thorough.
