Default building a "small" sbc?

Hey guys, So I am building a little 283 for a 96 s-10 I have. I am not really looking for torque since the truck is light and has a fresh rebuilt t-5. I was planning on just bumping the compresion to about 11:1, a set of vortec heads(some valvetrain), and a cam to turn close to 7k rpm's. I've been doing a little research and have been told that the 283's bore is to small for a set or vortec heads. Now I really didn't want ot bore it, but I am guessing that I am going to have to. Summit does not sell a performace rebuild kit for this motor either? Any experiences with 283's or I'm learing towards a 302? I know I won't get the kind of power the big guys get but this is for a little truck. Small dicplacemnt and lots of rpm's?
