Navistar has made the Ford Diesels for years . As far as for my "EXPERT Opinion" I have been in the car transport / towing industry for Almost 6 years . And without fail it seems that GM should stick to the 1/2 ton market , I have nothing against GM in general its just that without fail the 3500s are too light in the front for towing , they are underbraked . Ive been through 3 3500 chevy wreckers . A 95 , 98 ,04 and they have all been wayy too weak for the task at hand . As for my buddy he has had the same F350 with a power stroke 7.3 and it worked circles around all of mine . This may be different in dually 5th wheel world I dont know (never had the fun of towing a 50 foot gooseneck ) I just have never had any luck with GM's medium duty trucks , now if you want to move on to the 6500's with the CAT motor I am all for them . As for the Fords I have been a pretty stern Ford guy but I also currently own a Chevy and a Dodge too . I just left a guys house earlier today that just traded in his 05 chevy 4500 crew pickup with a Duramax for a 06 Ram with a cummins due to the thousand transmission and engine problems he has had . The dealer told him that that was the third one in 6 months they had gotten in . I am in no way racially biased when it comes to vehicles , I am just speaking from past experiences . Honestly when the Chevy trucks first came out a local towing company replaced 7 of their trucks with them and this was in mid 04 . By last month they had just gotten rid of the last one and went to new Freightliners , again due to the problems with the Chevy trucks . I guess no ones opinion but the person who drives the vehicle should matter anyway , so choose whatever vehicle you feel comfortable with . Because in the end you are the one who has to drive it .
