The only thing GM is going to take away is money from its shareholders. Ford is just trimming the fat and trying to keep a decent bottom line. A unit like SVT can always be put back later. Think about the total revenue... the 7500+ SVT Cobra's that they plan to sell this year versus the 1 million or so F-series that they'll sell. Plus, you don't need special dealer cert, training, and distribution for their trucks, unlike the SVT stuff.
