From the tire shop, I would find out how wide and low profile I could go with the rims I have.
If you have 70's, I would go lower to at least a 60 series, and try for just a tad wider than they recommend.
I would work on getting the car to corner flat, with the suspension adjusted on the performance side of stock, so the tires don't get eaten up..........and get the tire pressure right for your kind of driving.
