They kept the 13b engine, but they did a few tweaks to it. Since RX7's from 85+ have the 13b engine in it, they had to find a way to distinguish it between them.
This engine is a new design,no other 13B is liek it.Its only used in the RX8 now,its the only rotary powered vehicale from Mazda,but im sure there will be other flatforms sharing the new engines design
