you will find that there are several things on hondas that the factory did right and can't be improved upon. vtec is one of them, until you seriously mod the motor just leave it as is. and I have to commend you on the proper spelling of vtec, for a honda rookie to not think there motor has a phone in it, vtech, is a refreshing sight.
