Yes the thought is very interesting. I think we will see some interesting attempts to pull more power out of the 8 engines in 2006 now that the warranties are close to being up.
Anyway, we could just debate personal opinion for ever and never come to any important conclusions. What is important is that I am a rotary addict.
I think that with the proper upgrades it would be able to keep up with the 7s out there. She aint slow, she's just heavy.
I will agree that the 8 is very different from the 7, that's why they didnt give it the 7 name. You must look at it for a while to really see the Miata and RX-7 in it. The 8 has potential like the other sports cars in the family, but it is the odd ball right now. Not a Miata, not a 7, but it's own new generation of sportscar. The 6 and the 3 now mimick the 8's styling. The Miata stands alone. The 7 will be the next big thing to come once that Supra is out and it will be crazy expensive. So there is my take on the whole deal.
