Ya, they are going to sell the car for 3,000 under invoice.
This is how you do it. Go to the dealer and tell them that you want to pay 500 over invoice and have them show you the actual invoice. If you were to pay anything less then what is the point in selling it to you. These aren't Escorts guys. Think of it like this, a grocer buys a can of beans for $.25, does it make sense for him to sell it for $.27? No, they have to keep the lights on and provide shopping carts and employees.
Sorry for the rant Joe, but this is directed more at everyone.
I agree getting a new 06 for $30k is really stretching it. I got my 05 for $31k and that was after haggling for what seemed like a couple hours (on that and my trade in).
BUT, is the invoice price really the same as what the dealer pays for the car? and if it is how can you trust the dealer to show you what they paid? no other business would show you info like that (that grocer isn't gonna tell you they paid $.25 for a can of beans). What adds to the confusion is looking up the invoice price on the internet, you find 8 different prices ranging from the mid $30's to the mid $32's (for the 06 STI). And I've heard some dealers that do really well volume-wise get discounts from the manufacturer as a reward (although I don't know if that's accurate cause I've heard from someone who used to be a Subaru sales manager that it's not true, all they get is better inventory). I hate buying cars cause when you're dealing with thousands of $$ like that it's hard for me to trust
anyone (especially anyone that says they worked in sales for a dealership, no offense).
