the repair of the fiber cable isn't that hard to do, but being able to afford the fusion machine and test equipment will be the hard part. A mechanical splice on the fiber might be good enough for the speeds that the car will use but with the vibration that a car has I wouldn't trust it, fusion is the only way to go. people will pay a mint to have this fixed up to the point that it becomes mainstream, but I don't see that happening for a long time.
