Correct me if I'm wrong here, but GM has different versions of its LS1 motors, where compression varies, oil sumps are different, etc.
The Honda codes are useful in that respect.
Not reallym im still not fully up on GM engines, but I think you are referring to the car vs truck motors. Trucks I do recall get another engine code for themselves. I recall Al has an LQ4 iron 6.0 liter block from a truck in his current setup.
There was some slight difference I recal in the early Ls1 that came with the vette vs the ones that came with the fbodies. But from what I read later on, there identical.
The only thing that really changed on the car Ls1 was a few minor revisions and them adding the LS6 intake somewhere in 01 to all Ls1 motors.
