The 2JZ GTE (2nd gen, JZ family, DOHC (from G, WTF?), Turbocharged with Electronic FI) could have easily been called the "183 turbo," or "3000 turbo" for metric, and it'd be easy to tell what it was.
why are people always generalizing about "all imports" this and "all domestics" that? nissan has the right idea. what's a 240sx? a 2.4l. what's an sr20det? a 2l turbo. rb24dett? 2.4l twin turbo. tell me, what the hell does lt1 stand for?
