Default Drive A New Ford For Free Until Next Year

If you are thinking about a new car here you go:

Payment deferred on last of '02 Fords

Incentive is intended to clear showrooms

It sounds like a carpet sale, except the clearance items are Ford Motor Co. cars and trucks: no interest and no payments until January on all remaining 2002 Ford models.

The automaker's Free Ride incentive plan, available through Sept. 30, is designed to clear the dealership decks of remaining 2002 models, Ford officials said. In addition to the deferred payments, buyers can choose zero-percent financing on loans up to 60 months or rebates up to $3,500. Zero-percent financing on many 2003 Fords is also set to expire Sept. 30, though analysts said Ford may extend the deals to match its rivals.

Susan Krusel, Ford spokeswoman, said the offer should attract consumers who were on the fence.
