Boy you VR6 guys are really getting upset over this.
I never attacked the VR6 and believe it's a very capable engine. Unlike you guys I don't believe it's the end all in VW performance. In that case neither is the 1.8t, but it's not impotent either. All I ask is show me a real world (i.e. not shop owned with 1000's of hours and dollars in it) VR6 that outdoes every 1.8t out there. If you can't do that then concede that they are very both capable of similar if not equal power. I never said one is better than the other.
I'll concede the VR6 has a nice powerband and would love to build a 24vSC MKIII Cabby, but I don't have the disposable income for that right now. I need a few more years for that.
MrNiceGuy: Are you honestly going to invest $10K in just your drivetrain?
I'm not. If I was going that route I would have bought a more capable car (i.e. S4, Supra, etc...) Most people buy a VW because it's a well rounded car that looks good, and is capable of good power. You can mod it it inside and out with a variety of customizations. It also affords a certain bit of luxury and safety that Hondas don't have. As for reliability, I've owned three and the only problem I ever had was 2 bad MAFs.
