The thing about Tampa being "invincible" is a little off. Granted, Pinellas County hasn't had a direct hit by a hurricane in, I think its 80 or so years. A "direct hit" meaning the eye passes over. That doesn't count near misses. Remember Charlie? It was supposed to whallop Pinellas. I made a video catalog of everything in my apartment for the insurance. I brought entire file server with me when I went to my parents' house for safe keeping.
That's to say nothing if it goes in north of Pinellas, such as Pasco. The storm surge going into the bay would probably be more than enough to put downtown Tampa underwater pretty well. A 20 foot storm surge would cover almost all of Pinellas. Plus, as you all realize I'm sure, hurricanes are big. Katrina would have covered the entire state of Florida, and then some.
Yeah, I'm a weather nerd.
