Orlando Speed World Rant !
Once again OSW has reaffirmed their facility is sub-par at best ! Myself and and a group of friends went yesterday (Sunday) and it was the same ole 'ish in Bithlow (OSW).
We went and sat in the stands about 10:15 to get a good seat because their is hardly any seating to begin with. Not one thing was done to the track to prep it from that point (10:15) until the the first car tried to go down the track.
The race did not start until 11:45 (was supposed to start at 11:00).
The first eight cars down the right lane shook the tires hard within the first 300 ft. and did not complete a full pass. Did they stop to re-prep or check it out after the first, second, or fifth car that shook badly ? Nope. Just kept on sending them. And these were high dollar 6-7 second cars not some bracket cars. Personally if it were my car in the right lane I would have not gone down until they re-prepped it.
Steve Miller's TT 6 second truck caught fire at about 200 ft in the first round and burned for about one to one and a half minutes before the first person with a fire extinguisher got to him. The first guy to arrive was the starter after he had to run to get the extinguisher then run 500 ft down track to put it out ! No four wheeler, truck, etc to get anyone there faster from the line. How comforting to watch one big guy with a small hand held extinguisher run 500ft while Miller was getting cooked in the car. Thank goodness he escaped without injury.
Finally after almost one and a half minutes a track truck arrives from the far end of the track with extinguishers and puts out the blaze. The front half of the car was heavily damaged. Miller got himself out of the blazing car, no one else was there to help !
I seriously have no idea how that place stays in business. From the always lousy track prep or water bubbling up from the racing surface, to the garbage all over the place, to the lack of bathrooms, lack of seating, and piss poor safety standards it is astonishing that place is still there.
While sitting through the many delays of the race we were hearing a lot of the same grumbling from people sitting around us so it seems as if the group of people I went with were not the only ones having these thoughts.
My sincere hope is they make some sweeping changes at OSW or that race ends up at Bradenton that has a facility that is 10x what Orlando could ever hope to be !
As comsumers we deserve better than what we have been getting at OSW, someone needs to let it be known !
Feel free to add your.02 if you went any of the days, I am interested to see what others have to say.
